In a campaign season awash in recorded political phone messages from voices dripping with dignity or hot with indignation, voters in the 1st Congressional District were greeted this weekend with a call that could only be described as, well, sexy.

I don't know about the kind of congressional politics they practice out there in California. Granted they're pretty liberal in their views on sexuality.

In California, where one expects this sort of inanity, a staff worker for Republican congressional candidate Zane Starkewolf (now that would be a great porn name) recorded a ‘robo-call' in hopes of calling attention to incumbent opponent Mike Thompson's voting record.

Voters in the North Bay are complaining about an unusually racy robo-call, a recorded phone message sent by a Republican candidate for Congress.

Zane Starkewolf is a Green Republican running against Democrat Mike Thompson in California's first congressional district.

Zane Starkewolf is a ninth-level elven warrior from Dungeons and Dragons and self-professed "Green Republican" who's running against Mike Thompson in California's First District, and he's spent his Monday morning attempting to explain a robocall his campaign sent out over the weekend.

Voters across California's first congressional district picked up the phone this weekend to hear a breathy woman intone that "Mike Thompson's been a bad boy."

 

With a seductive voice more suited to an escort service than political outreach, the woman suggestively urges listeners to "vote 'yesssss' for Zane," the Republican challenger to Thompson, a Democratic congressman.

 

A lot of us would probably agree with the cynical sentiment that politicians sometimes act like prostitutes for votes, but it's seldom that an aspiring politician would actually use the tone of one to advertise his campaign.

Today in the First Congressional District, the campaign for Zane Starkewolf (R) "Green Republican," released a political phone ad that according to the Starkewolf campaign: "when written out simply holds current Representative Mike Thompson (D) accountable for two items on his voting record, one recent and one historical".

 

Candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives from California's District 1 fielded a variety of questions from viewers Monday at a KEET-TV League of Women Voters forum.

Participating candidates included incumbent Mike Thompson, a Democrat; Zane Starkewolf, a Green Republican; Green Party candidate Carol Wolman; and write-in candidate Pamela Elizondo.
